Cranial Osteopathy
The Children's Clinic now has two cranial osteopaths who are available for treatments. Abigail Cook, cranial osteopath www.cornwallosteopathy.co.uk, has also joined Kate Hands at the Clinic.
Cranial osteopathy is a refined osteopathic treatment using gentle manipulative pressure to relieve strains and stresses throughout the body, including the head. It is widely recommended for babies and children as the gentlest form of osteopathy. Birth trauma can lead to a colicky baby, a toddler with tantrums, a disruptive and inattentive pupil, a truanting teenager and then a disfunctional adult. If you treat the initial problem, you can stop the cycle before it takes hold and society as a whole will benefit.
Acupuncture for Children
Jess Birmingham has come to join us in Lostwithiel and we believe she is Cornwall's first and only paediatric acupuncturist offering acupuncture for children. Jess uses only the finest sterilised disposable needles and she assures us that the treatment is virtually painless. Traditionally, acupuncture has been used to treat almost the entire spectrum of illness, physical and psychological, acute and chronic. In traditional oriental medicine, diagnosis and treatment is tailored to each individual and addresses the whole person in order to reach the root cause. It is endorsed by the World Health Organisation for a wide range of diseases. And in 2009 acupuncture was recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) for chronic lower back pain. To find out more about Jess, phone her on 07816 319 540 or go to her website, www.acupuncturecornwall.co.uk
Acupuncture
There are now three acupuncturists, including Jess Birmingham, working at the Clinic - Julia Biggs, BSc Hons, LicAc, MBAcC, began working at the Clinic at the beginning of March 2008. And Guy Nott Bower, practitioner in Traditional Chinese Medicine, also joined us in September 2008.
Homeopathy
The Clinic has a fully registered and qualified Homeopath who is available for treatments and consultations. We are increasingly concerned about the amount of drugs being prescribed to young children and homeopathy offers beneficial treatments for all sorts of childhood disorders such as asthma and chest complaints, sinus and adenoidal problems, digestive disorders and all kinds of recurring infections without the use of drugs. Homeopathy treats the child as a whole and is a safe and effective system of medicine which stimulates the body's natural healing ability, strengthening the immune system with no side effects.
